The City of Runaway Bay has year-round recreational opportunities including golf, lake activities, a civic center and swimming.

Some of our parks and recreation resources are:

LAKE BRIDGEPORT

Lake Bridgeport - Situated on the West fork of the Trinity River about 45 miles northwest of Fort Worth, Lake Bridgeport is open to the General Public from a number of Public and Private Use Areas - Boating, sailing, water skiing, skin diving, and swimming. Numerous Boat Launching sites are available. Fishing - Crappie, Black, White and Sand Bass, Perch and Channel Cat are among the common catches.

Runaway Bay Marina - MAP - The City owns a modern marina on Lake Bridgeport which includes 148 boat slips, (140 covered and 8 sailboat) in a wind protective cove. Public boat ramps are also available. Call (940) 575-4745 for leasing information.

Runaway Bay Public Swimming Beach - Ratliff Drive - MAP - Public swimming beach with picnic tables, sandy beach, ample parking, and porta-potty.

Chupacabra Point Paddling Trails - MAP - Highly rated, Chupacabra is the launch point for three different paddling trails: Boons Creek Paddling Trail, Willow Creek Paddling Trail, and Coal Bed Creek paddling Trail.  A parking area and a walk-to canoe/kayak launch point are available at the Chupacabra trail head. There are currently no restroom facilities. The One Stop of Texas now rents one and two person kayaks for two-hour or all day outings and you can row to the various trails from their launch ramp.

CITY PARKS

Cricket Ridge Park - MAP - 51 Runaway Bay Dr. Children's playground area adjacent to the Normal Coble Civic Center and fairway 13 of the golf course.

Runaway Bay Swimming Pool & The Park - MAP - Public Swimming Pool, sports fields, picnic area.

Basketball Park - MAP - small basketball court for practice, exercise, and pick-up games at Runaway Bay Drive and Doaks Drive.

Frazier Park? - MAP - Walking trail and park benches. Nice stargazing spot out in the Jim Walters development on the west end of town. (Owned by KBF Trust)

RECREATION and CAMPING

The Club at Runaway Bay - Wise County's only 18 hole golf course, consistently rated as one of the best in Texas.  The Club also includes a pro shop, dining, meeting, dancing, and wedding facilities, and a bar that serves drinks and burgers, etc.
