History of Runaway Bay EDC Actions

Prior to 2003

May 6, 1995 - The City of Runaway Bay, at the time under the leadership of Mayor Clay Dent, voted to on May 6, 1995 to create the Runaway Bay Economic Development Corporation.

While we are still researching actions of the EDC prior to 2003, we do know that the Runaway Bay EDC contributed at least $60,000 for the construction of the Runaway Bay Swimming Pool in The Park at 938 Port O Call.

2003 – 2017

2003

May 5, 2003 - RB EDC allocates $15,000 of EDC funds to pay down the pool debt matched by the City from the Ada Blakely endowment.

Nov 12, 2003 - RB EDC participates in a project to construct facilities on City owned park land for sports.

2004

Feb 10, 2004 - RB EDC grants the Community Garden Project $1,000.00 for the purchase of cinder blocks for garden borders as requested by Judge Leslie Wilson.

2005

August 30, 2005 - RB EDC approves $7,500.00 for funding of the walking trail at the Park at Runaway Bay.

2006

March 15, 2006 - The Runaway Bay EDC pledge partial funding to a Master Plan in the amount not to exceed $5,000.00 contingent upon the City providing its portion of funding and further contingency being that the City Council adopt an ordinance ensuring future use and abide by the Plan in all future projects of the City. The City’s funding and the ordinance must be in place no later than January 1, 2007; otherwise the Runaway Bay EDC commitment is null and void.

2007

July 11, 2007 – RB EDC agrees to pay for lounge chairs, safety pools steps for deep end, tables and fencing for City Pool not exceed $2,509.84 and approves $2,500.00 for replacing or remodeling the swing set at park at the intersection of Doaks and Runaway Bay Drive.

Sept. 5, 2007 – RB EDC approves $5,000.00 for funding the 4th Fest fireworks contingent upon the event being held on July 4, 2008.

2008

May 28, 2008 – RB EDC presents GRBA a check of $5,000 for Fourth Fest as approved at September 5, 2007 meeting.

 

2009

January 22, 2009 – RB EDC approves $5,000.00 for funding of the 4th Fest Fireworks to be held on July 4, 2009.

April 30, 2009 – RB EDC approves $14,579 to replace dock and boat gas pump at Lakeside Grocery for Marina use (100% contribution)

2010

April 8, 2010 – RB EDC approves a contribution of $5,000.00 to the Greater Runaway Bay Alliance for the 2010 4th Fest Fireworks Celebration

May 27, 2010 – RB EDC approves the purchase of buoys for the beach at a cost of $2,320.50

July 29, 2010 – RB EDC agrees to pay for the Port-o-Potty this year 2009-2010 for the beach area for the months of May thru September ($493.30)

2011

Agenda and Minutes for December 11, 2011 available – no known actions this year.

2012

April 19, 2012 – RB EDC approves $1,500.00 of the $3,000.00 needed to purchase pool lift chair for the City pool.

2013

January 10, 2013 – RB EDC approves motion to pay 50% of the Port-o-Potty in the amount of $592.00.

July 11, 2013 – RB EDC approves the funding of $3,500.00 for movie to be filmed at Runaway Bay. (About Mom & Dad)

2014

January 9, 2014 – RB EDC approves funding to pay 50% of the Port-o-Potty and approves motion to assist the Alliance with funding of the 4th Fest.

April 10, 2014 – RB EDC approved $250.00 for June 7, 2014 Clean-up T-Shirts and $5,000.00 for the 4th Fest and Golf Tournament

2015

April 9, 2015 – RB EDC approves $500 funding for T-Shirts for the June 13th Runaway Bay clean-up day, insuring Runaway Bay is on the T-shirts and approved $5,000 funding to the Greater Runaway Bay Alliance 4th Fest.

July 16, 2015 – RB EDC approves $5,000 funding for purchasing equipment for the pool.

2016

January 21, 2016 – RB EDC approved the paying of half of Port-o-Potty for 2016 and approved $5,000 funding for the fourth fest.

April 21, 2015 – RB EDC approved the funding of June 11th Clean-up T-Shirts ($500.00) and approves funding of $1,000.00 for pool furniture such as pool light, pool vacuum, umbrella and rescue tube.

September 29, 2015 – RB EDC approves the request of $1,250.00 to Greater Runaway Bay Alliance for matching grant from Modern Woodman for a new sign (at the western entrance?) in Runaway Bay.

December 12, 2016 – RB EDC approves new meeting schedule designed to help the EDC bring better benefit to the city of Runaway Bay. EDC meetings are to be held on the second Monday of each month. 

2017

January 9, 2017 – RB EDC approves payment of $641.29 for the Port-o-Potty for the Beach and Mariana area. Guest Gregg Last with EDT Best Practices came and gave a presentation on marketing, planning & economic analysis, management, incentives, board training, business retention and expansion on how to improve the growth of our city.

February 20, 2017 – RB EDC

  1. Approves hiring of Gregg Last with EDT Best Practices to instruct and show us how to move forward with the programs Marketing &Promotion and Planning & Economic Analysis to start with but limited too, with a cap of $5,000.
  2. Approves funding of Greater Runaway Bay Alliance 4th Fest in the amount of $5,000.00.

March 13, 2017 – RB EDC, after receiving a report from Greg Last,

  1. Approves enlisting the help of Greg Last of EDT Best Practices to develop the Property Enhancement Incentive policy, application and procedure recommendation.
  2. Approves enlisting the help of Greg Last of EDT Best Practices to develop the sites and building Survey and EDC action item plan.

May 8, 2017 – In addition to other actions, RB EDC adopts a mission statement:

The mission of the Runaway Bay Economic Development Corporation is 
to retain and attract businesses 
while capitalizing on our lakeside character
and sense of community.

July 7, 2017 – RB EDC votes to create its own website (this one) which goes on-line in late July

Aug. 14, 2017 – RB EDC

  1. votes to contribute $6,000 to GRBA to build new "Welcome to Runaway Bay" sign at west end of the City. 
  2. votes to contribute $2,500 to renovate Cricket Ridge Park plus moneys to purchase food and refreshments for participants.

2018

February 2018 – RB EDC leads in renovation of Basketball Park

May 2018 – RB EDC donates $2,500 to GRBA toward annual 4th Fest Event

June 2, 2018 – RB EDC hosts Greg Last from EDT Best Practices who provides a training session on Business Retention and Expansion for Runaway Bay city leadership.

July 9, 2018 – RB EDC

  1. votes to purchase ESRI ArcGIS software for the EDC and City to use for Zoning Maps and to track Infrastructure.
  2. votes to move forward with a Business Retention and Expansion initiative with the help of Greg Last from EDT Best Practices (More on this later...)
